My Holiday: Day 1

I have gone on holiday! We have taken our caravan up to the Yarra Ranges and pitched up home. We have come up to come for a wedding, but also decided to take the last week of term off to spend the week exploring and enjoying the sights.

Day 1

Today we went to the Melbourne Museum. I have come here a few times, and it never disappoints. We also went for a walk around the city (which included getting lost!)

(Sorry about the poor lighting in the museum!)

New Glasses!

I have been having to wear glasses since I was about the age of 8 years old, but only for reading. It has now come to the stage where I have to wear them all the time, so I thought when I was choosing my frames, I needed pairs that go with everything, and that I will hopefully continue to enjoy wearing for at least a couple of years. These were my choices!

Osiris - Pinkish Frames

I really like the frame of the glasses, and thought they suited the shape of my face. My mum thought it would be a good idea to buy a pair with colour. I'm still not sure about the boldness of the pink, but I'll wear them nonetheless.. I mean at least I can see well with them?

Osiris - Tortoise Shelled frames with metal arms

These are my favourite, I love everything about them! I think the shape suits my face, and I love the tortoise shell pattern. I also like that the arms are metal, and have a nice pattern on them, it really suits the plastic frame. I think this pair will be the ones I wear everyday, they'll go with everything!

p.s. It was such  a lovely day (25 degrees Celsius on the second last day of Winter is pretty exciting!) I decided to take my photos outside. I can't wait for the hot weather!

Kalangadoo Farmers Market

As I had the day off work, my family and I decided to travel 30 minutes down the road to the Kalangadoo Farmers Market. They have a lovely cafe, with lots of local food and drinks, and a room full of 'markety' things to purchase. There are locally made things as well as things from overseas (such as Peru). Everyone was so lovely, and there is a barbecue selling beautiful sausages, onions and burgers. We bought cheese, plum sauce, dvd's and videos as well as a very bright beanie. It was a lovely drive out to Kalangadoo, and the market was even more pleasant! If you would like to know more about the Kalangadoo Farmers Market, check out their website - Kalangadoo Farmers Market.

Review; Let it Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle

I haven't really read  a book like this before, but this style of novel has really taken my fancy! The story follows three different characters, and each characters story is written by a different author. Eventually you find out that all theses characters are connected in different ways and all re-unite at the end. When one character was mentioned I found myself going "Oh my gosh! I know them! I read their story!" Then I realised "Of course I have read their story. They know I have read their story. That's the point". #conversations with myself
Anyway, this is a really nice, sweet Christmas story that I didn't put down until i finished it! Thank goodness for school holidays!
I have now discovered that I love books way to much for them to end. Just like Erik Erikson's theory of human development; even if you have led a wonderful life and are happy how you spent it, everyone feels despair at death, either because it's a sad ending or because they don't want their happy life to end. I have found that all these books I have been reading recently are too good, and I don't want them to end. Even if their is a sad ending.
Sorry if I rambled a little bit there.. it made sense to me, so I was wondering if it made sense to anyone else?

Anyway, make sure to pick this book up and read it, you will not be disappointed!

Exploring my backyard: Flagstaff Hill

Last Friday, my family decided to take our cousins to Flagstaff Hill in Warrnambool. It wasn't the nicest day (weather wise) but we still enjoyed exploring this olden day town. As a little Preppy, I went to Flagstaff Hill with my class, and I now remember sitting in the classroom (shown above) and having to copy things off the board. As I am left handed, I had to write right-handed (because that's how they did back in the day), and we also wore costumes! This little trip reminded me of the fun when I went to one of my old schools. The rooms and buildings were all very interesting, and quite pretty. There were also lots of ducks around we were allowed to feed. This is definetly a place to go to when in Warrnambool!

Review: "Paper Towns" by John Green

This book now ties with “An Abundance of Katherine’s’ as my favourite John Green novel. I found I can really relate with the characters, especially Quentin (I often have anxiety attacks, I have to remind myself to be more daring). I also loved the mystery of the story, especially you had to try and solve the mystery with them (I picked the door clue!!). I was so sad at the end, mainly because the book ends but also because so many things are unknown, I am hoping John Green makes a sequel because I need to know what happens! I am now on the hunt for my next John Green book!

Exploring my backyard: Princess Margaret Rose Cave

We also decided to take my cousins to the Princess Margaret Rose Cave just over the Victorian Border. Unlike the cave I work at, this cave is a wet cave, meaning Stalactites and Stalagmites are a plenty. The formations were beautiful, and were shaped as many different things. It was definitely worth the trip over the border!

Review: "Looking for Alaska" by John Green

I made my mum take me to Big W to by another John Green book. “Looking for Alaska” was the first book I saw, so I quickly went to the checkout and bought it. I couldn’t put it down!! It took me just over 24 hours to read it, it is that good!! I had heard nothing about what this book was about, so events definitely shocked me. And even though it was sad, I LOVED IT!! I highly recommend this book, although there are some mature scenes, so maybe if you’re over 16? I feel that because I read it so quickly, the story ended to quick, so I will definitely be re-reading this one again soon!

Exploring my backyard: The Little Blue

My cousins have come down from the city, so we decided to give them a bit more of tour of the area. We took them to Piccaninnie Ponds and then to the Little Blue Lake (named because it looks like a smaller version of The Blue Lake). It was a really cold, windy day, but this didn't stop us from going to the Pontoon on the water. It was a really pretty view and well worth the drive (I didn't even crash!!)

Review: "An Abundance of Katherines" by John Green

After reading the Fault in our Stars, I decided John Green is a brilliant author.  I asked my mum to go down to the book shop whilst I was at work to buy any John Green book she could find. “An Abundance of Katherine’s” is the one she chose. I have to admit, I was a bit hesitant at first as people had told me they didn’t like this book, or found it hard to get into. It was the opposite for me! I loved the storyline, the characters and how the story progressed. I thought Green did an excellent job at depicting what life is like for some people. I also enjoyed the fact that there were footnotes, as I think it added more to the story. Every time I saw a superscript (wordx) I got very excited! I am very excited to read more from John Green!

Exchange Photos

This week just gone I was lucky enough to be a team member for a school exchange that has been happening since 1947. Every year my school either visits or hosts a high school from the Riverland. The week is full of 9 sport games and a debate. At the end the winning school of the debate takes home a shield, and the school with the most sporting wins takes home the cup. We unfortunately were 1 game away from the cup, but our debate team won! I - as a very uncoordinated, not sporty person - was third speaker for our debating team, and I was lucky enough to be announced best speaker for my team. Everyone from our school, especially our team were thrilled to hear it announced that we won. Whilst staying in the Riverland, we took the opportunity to talk around and see the sites. the weather was amazing (here in the Limestone Coast, we have had pouring rain nearly all day, everyday). So I took the opportunity to take some photos. On the drive home, we welcomed back with pouring rain. It was a great week, and I can't wait until the exchange next year!!

A Cupcake Full Week

Last week, my friend and I made 86 cupcakes that were all decorated differently. I had exams that week, which meant I only had to be at school during my exams, which meant I had the rest of the time to bake! We made many different types of cakes (some for a dance party and some for a Skylanders party we were helping out with). We also made a cake like the portal used in the Skylanders game. We had heaps of fun, as well as made a big mess.. But whats fun without a mess?

What's your favourite thing to bake?
