Exploring my backyard ~ Piccaninnie Ponds

By living in Australia I have the privilege to live in a country full of beautiful landscapes and animals. By living in the South-East of South Australia we have the opportunity to drive 15 minutes down the road to sinkholes full of water, beautiful beaches, and in my case, to work at a cave in the middle of town that literally our town is built above. As it was a public holiday, after I came home from work we took the opportunity to visit Piccaninnie Ponds and the beach near it. It was a beautiful day, and even though the water was freezing we ventured into the shallow waters of the ocean. When looking out to see nothing but water and the horizon. It was breathtaking! We then went to the Pond (we didn't go in as you need to either have a diving licence or have organised with a shop to snorkel - my dad and our friend did actually snorkel before we got there). The water is so clear, the divers say it feels like you are floating in air.  My family and I are going to start taking more opportunities to explore our backyard, you never know, hopefully one day I can say I have traveled all around Australia, although it is nice sometimes to play tourist in your own town.
